Vizio SmartCast Limitations

Vizio's SmartCast platform has more limited codec support compared to dedicated streaming devices. If you experience frequent transcoding, consider using a Fire TV Stick 4K, Roku, or Apple TV instead of the built-in app.

1 Open Plex Settings

Launch Plex from SmartCast:

Press V button → Apps → Plex → Settings (gear icon)
2 Video Quality Settings
Settings → Video
Local Quality Original / Maximum

Best quality on your home network.

Remote Quality Original / Maximum

Best quality from outside your home.

Direct Play ON

Play files without conversion when possible.

Direct Stream ON

Allow minor format changes without full transcoding.

3 Vizio TV Input Settings

Enable full HDMI bandwidth (for external devices):

Menu → Picture → More Picture → Input Picture Settings → Full UHD Color
Full UHD Color ON

Enables 4K HDR on HDMI inputs. Good to have enabled regardless.

4 Picture Mode
Menu → Picture → Picture Mode
Picture Mode Calibrated or Calibrated Dark

Most accurate colors for movie watching.

Picture Mode Guide

Calibrated: Accurate colors for well-lit rooms.

Calibrated Dark: Optimized for dark room viewing.

Vivid: Avoid - oversaturated and inaccurate.

5 Motion Settings
Menu → Picture → More Picture → Motion Control
Reduce Motion Blur OFF or Low

Prevents soap opera effect.

Reduce Judder OFF or Low

Can help with 24fps content, but can also cause artifacts.

Clear Action OFF

Motion interpolation - turn it off for movies.
