Browser Limitations

Web browsers have limited codec support compared to native apps. This means more content will need to transcode, which can reduce quality and increase server load.

For best results: Use a native app (desktop, mobile, or streaming device) whenever possible.

Browser Reality Check

Even with optimal settings, browsers will transcode more content than native apps. This is a browser limitation, not a Plex issue.

What will likely Direct Play: MP4 files with H.264 video and AAC audio.

What will likely Transcode: MKV files, HEVC/H.265 video, surround audio (DTS, TrueHD), image-based subtitles.

For the best experience with diverse media libraries, use a dedicated app or streaming device.
