Use the maximum resolution your TV supports.

5 4K TV Details (Important!)
Xbox Settings → General → TV & display options → 4K TV details

This screen shows what your TV supports. Make sure these show green checkmarks:

4K UHD ✓ Supported

Your TV can display 4K content.

HDR10 ✓ Supported

Standard HDR format support.

Dolby Vision ✓ Supported (if your TV has it)

Premium HDR format with dynamic metadata.

Seeing "Not Supported" when it should work?

Your TV's HDMI port might need "Enhanced" mode enabled. Check your TV settings for HDMI UHD Color, Deep Color, or Enhanced Format.

6 Video Modes Settings
Xbox Settings → General → TV & display options → Video modes
Allow 4K ✓ Checked

Enable 4K output.

Allow HDR10 ✓ Checked

Enable standard HDR.

Allow Dolby Vision ✓ Checked

Enable Dolby Vision for supported content.

Allow 24Hz ✓ Checked

Important! Allows movies to play at native 24fps.

Auto HDR Your preference

This is for games - doesn't affect Plex.

Why "Allow 24Hz" matters

Movies are filmed at 24 frames per second. Enabling 24Hz lets Xbox output at native 24fps, eliminating judder and making movies look smooth and cinematic!

7 Audio Settings
Xbox Settings → General → Volume & audio output
HDMI audio Bitstream out (if you have a soundbar/receiver)

Sends surround audio directly to your sound system.

Bitstream format Dolby Atmos for home theater (if supported)

Or Dolby Digital if your system doesn't support Atmos.

TV speakers only?

Set HDMI audio to "Stereo uncompressed" - your TV will handle it properly.

✓ Verify It's Working

  1. Play something in Plex
  2. Check playback info for "Direct Play"
  3. For HDR content, your TV should show an HDR/DV indicator
  4. Check Xbox 4K TV details to confirm capabilities
